Welcome to another Day in the Life post! If you’re new around here, let me explain what this series is all about.
When I started my business in January 2016, I felt like I had no idea what I was doing. I had no clue how to structure my days, how to prioritize, or how to juggle #allthethings.
I’ve always loved reading day in the life posts because I like seeing the behind the scenes of what someone’s day is really like. The good, the bad, and the ugly.
I got the idea of asking fellow small business owners to share a day in their life, so I could share different perspectives of all kinds of people from all kinds of industries.
So that’s how the day in the life series all started!
Today’s post comes from Jaimie of Jaimie Myers. She is an Instagram genius and a mom of a two working as a social media strategist in Madison, Wisconsin (ugh, so wish we could have met in real life when I lived in Wisconsin!).
Check out how she balances it all down below!

Day In The Life: Jaimie from Jaimie Myers
First, a big thanks to Brittney for having me here on the Day in the Life series! I’m so excited because I always want to do more of these lifestyle-type posts! It was a seriously rainy day on the day I documented so my desk was a nice, dark area. I keep it near a window so I get as much natural light as possible, but on this day, nothing but gray. My days are all different depending on various business responsibilities, my husband’s work schedule and kid’s activities, but hopefully this gives you an idea!
My husband’s alarm goes up. It plays Blurred Lines and says “Everybody Get Up” super loud. Because I’m a night owl, I probably stayed up too late and don’t want to get up. I stretch a bunch and try to open my eyes to adjust, reach for my phone to check the weather and Timehop and finally get up. I usually drag myself into my daughter’s room to get her out of bed – she’s six, in kindergarten and not a fan of waking up either. Her name is Mila.
My daughter and I finally make it downstairs to breakfast. My husband (Eric) and 8-year-old son (Evan) are already halfway through packing lunches and eating breakfast. I grab some hot water for a cup of tea and beg Mila to just pick one – toast or cereal. She takes some convincing to choose her breakfast.
By this time, we are headed upstairs to get dressed, brush teeth, etc. Most days lately I get dressed right away too and try to get my makeup done while the kids watch cartoons or Sportscenter. We get a little dance show while Mila brushes her teeth (she likes to procrastinate).
Our neighbor girl comes over in the mornings because her mom’s a teacher and needs to get to work.
Out to the bus stop. Our bus stop is right in front of our house, but Eric and I both usually go out to wait with the kids. It’s fun to get these few minutes to watch them interact with others and get a little fresh air for ourselves too.
Head back into the house. I have a lot of client work to get done today, so I eat a quick bowl of cereal and start my day in Trello. Ever since I started using Trello, my life is seriously organized. No more crazy to-do lists all over six different notebooks and pieces of paper.
Working on an Instagram audit for a really fun new client! I love doing these one-on-one sessions because I really get to dig deep into fun strategies and ideas for just one person and really help them succeed on Instagram. So many of my personalized recommendations are things they hadn’t even thought of!Check out what a day in the life is like for social media strategist @jaimieemyers! #dayinthelife #ditl #socialmedia Click To Tweet
Eric has left for work (he works second shift, so he spends most of the morning at home) and I’m feeling kind of blah so I take one of my famous afternoon showers. I love taking a shower right in the middle of the day because I can get some thinking done and just relax. I always feel more creative and ready to continue work afterward. I highly recommend it if you do a lot of creative work all day long or struggle with creative blocks.
Now I’m working on a content calendar for a long-term social media client. Content calendars are such a great way for my clients to feel good about what’s going out on their social media channels. Everything is laid out ahead of time, including copy, links, images, scheduling times – all the client has to do is approve it and then I schedule it all out. A content calendar usually takes a full day of planning and implementing, but it’s so worth it!
Kiddos come off the bus. I can usually expect Evan to be hungry and Mila to be singing. I get them in the house, get them a snack and get all the papers out of their backpacks (seriously, so. many. papers).
We spend the next couple of hours playing and talking. Often they’ll occupy themselves so I take the opportunity to catch up on some social media or answer some emails. It’s hard to do any serious work when they’re around, so I save these more mindless tasks for this time.
Sometimes I also like to clean things up a bit, but my husband is a clean freak so there isn’t usually too much to worry about.
Quick dinner! We scrounge up some leftovers from the fridge and Evan gets all his soccer gear together.
I find Evan in the bathroom trying to scrape mud off his shoes into the sink.
We head to the car to go to Evan’s first soccer practice of the season.
6:00 – 7:00 pm
Soccer practice. There isn’t very good Wifi connection in the school, so I chat with another parent, while furiously trying to get my Instagram to update. Mila plays with another little girl.
We’re home and of course, everyone’s hungry again. Snack time.
Get the kids in bed. I got really lucky with kids that don’t take a lot of work to settle into bed. They both like to read, so they read a bit before they doze off.
It doesn’t take long for me to settle into the couch after I get the kids to bed. I’m usually binge watching something I’ve already seen, so I head straight for Netflix. Right now, it’s Dexter.
Hubby comes home. Sometimes he finds me totally asleep on the couch, sometimes I’m wide awake. Either way, I have a tendency to stay on the couch until about 11:00 or so, even though I totally know that I should just get into bed earlier so I can fall asleep there. Someone remind me to get back into that habit.
I stumble into the bathroom to make sure I take out my contacts and brush my teeth before sneaking into bed with Eric.
Whew! And that’s it. Every day brings new surprises and new things to work on, which is why I need to be so organized. I am also the President of the PTO at my kid’s school so some days I have to deal with lots of emails from parents or the school. Some days I work more on client work and other days I work more on my own business.
