I’m super excited to share this post because I’ve been dying to feature more solopreneurs that also work a full-time job. It can be so hard balancing it all and I love reading how different people manage their time and energy.
Jackie and I met through joining a mastermind together and I know we would get along so well in real life (I mean, hello, she’s obsessed with her dogs like I am).
Jackie is a part-time blogger, full-time attorney and I have no idea how she does it all! Take a look at her day in the life below!

Day in the Life: Jackie from Jade & Oak
So excited to be participating in Brittney’s Day in the Life series. I definitely love seeing how other people spend their days too so this is super interesting to me. For me, things are a little different because I actually have a full-time day job, so every day is busy and also totally different for me. I typically work in my downtown office from 7:15 am to 4 pm, but on Monday’s I actually work from home. I figured this would be the perfect day to share with you since it’s a hybrid of my typical days. I’m not going to talk about my day job tasks since that’s unrelated to my business, but will share about the rest of the day!

6:45 am – Wake up time!
When I’m commuting into my office, I get up closer to 5:45 am, so it’s so nice to get to sleep in. When I work from home for my day job, I have my work laptop and calls are forwarded to my cell phone so I need to be up and ready to go by 7:15 which is my typical start time.
Once I’m out of bed, I take the dogs out to do their business – they are loving that it’s lighter outside and not as cold (and I am too!) I then get my coffee and head upstairs to my office.
7:00 am – Stretching
I have been having annoying shoulder and neck pains for awhile. It’s nothing too crazy but I have been trying to stretch as often as I can. I work on my back and shoulders since I’ll be sitting at my desk all day and do some simple arm stretches, planks and down dogs. I wish I had more time to do this every morning, but when I wake up earlier to get into the office, I give myself the bare minimum amount of time to get out the door oops.
7:15 am – 12 pm – Day job
During this time I’m working on my day job, but I also take a few breaks…
9 am – Breakfast one
I like to have “two breakfasts” when I’m working because I’m a notorious “grazer.” I will pick at and eat food all day especially if I’m bored or trying to distract myself. I usually have something small around 9 am and then something else around 11 am and then lunch around 12:30 or 1-ish.
Today I have half a bagel with cream cheese at 9 am. I usually eat a whole bagel but I had a ton of Easter candy over the weekend and also baked cookies soooo trying to take it easy. I also end up getting busy and forget to have my second breakfast at 11 am oops.
10 am – Post in Facebook group
I quickly jump on my phone to post in my Facebook group to remind everyone to tune in for my Facebook Live later in the day. I don’t have anything fancy set up to automatically post in my Facebook group each day, so I have a reminder in my phone to manually post some news or a prompt in there each weekday.
11 am – Post on Instagram
I’ve been working on upping my Instagram game and have been aiming to post at least Monday through Friday. I have a stash of photos ready to go in my phone so I just quickly edit one and write out a caption to send out there.Check out what a day in the life is like for part-time #blogger, full-time attorney @jackiejade! #dayinthelife #ditl Click To Tweet
12 pm – 1 pm – Lunch break
Yes even though I’m working from home, I still get a lunch break. If I’m busy sometimes I work through lunch or other times I will run quick errands. Since I have my Facebook Live coming up later in the day, I use this time to brush up on what I’m going to chat about. I am a huge nerd when it comes to having an organized outline, so I work on that so I don’t forget anything important.
During all this, I’m also eating lunch. I usually like to make a fancy salad but it’s been a busy day, so I just heat up my stuffed shells my mother in law gave us for Easter. Quick, easy and tasty!
I also use this time to quickly take one of our dogs outside. Our girl dog Rosie is about 10 years old and is obsessed with my husband. Like, obsessssssed. If he’s home, she will follow him room to room. If he’s not home, she basically won’t move at all. She usually finds his slippers and lays next to them for 8 hours straight and I can hear her snoring. Since she is sound asleep, I just take out our other dog Bowie. He’s about 6 years old and loves going outside too, ahem, water everything ha. It’s a gorgeous day so we hang out a little out there before I get back to work.
1 pm – 4 pm – Day job
I attend a virtual online training for work from 1 – 2:30 pm so the afternoon goes super fast – yay! (Also as it got closer to “dinner time,” Rosie finally came in to see me to guilt trip me into feeding them dinner. She sat under my desk/chair like a weirdo ha.)
4 – 4:30 pm – Facebook Live
It’s so nice working from home and being able to immediately sign off and not have to commute anyway. I’m able to start my Facebook Live right around 4 pm and chatted all about monetizing your blog, in my Facebook group. I haven’t been utilizing my group or Facebook Live very much lately so I scheduled a month-long series to keep me on task and motivated. I like series that are daily but since I’m not home until later and sometimes have things after my day job, that didn’t work for me, so being able to just do a Facebook Live every Monday for 4 weeks worked better for me. Sometimes it’s hard not having more free time, but I make it work for me!
4:30 – 6 pm – Gym
After my Facebook Live is over, I change into my gym clothes, feed the dogs and drive over to our gym which is about 10 minutes away. I’ve been slacking lately so I’ve been trying to get myself over there more frequently – it’s rough ha. I use my elliptical time to read a Cosmo that I’ve been getting delivered for free to my house for some reason, even though I never ordered it. Then it’s time for some light weights and stretching (still trying to get those shoulders/neck feeling better! Computer work is the worst for neck pain.)
6 – 8 pm – Dinner and relaxing
Once I get home, it’s time for a quick dinner. My mom is from South Korea and is an amazing cook and I’m lucky that she loves to give me delicious food. I have a cute little rice cooker and I just get some rice and some leftovers from my mom. While eating, I settle into the living room to watch the series finale of Girls. During this, my husband comes home too and he eats some leftovers too (I really need to cook more oops). We watch the news and catch up on our days.
8 – 9 pm – Mastermind chat
I almost forgot the mastermind group chat I had scheduled but was still able to catch up with two of my ladies (including Brittney – yay!) I brought my laptop into the kitchen and chatted with them while I made my lunch for work for the next day, which is a salad. The pugs go nuts for baby carrots so of course I got distracted with feeding them a few.
9 – 9:30 pm – Shower / wind down
I’ve gotten into the habit of showering at night and I don’t think I should ever go back. My hair is really long and takes a million years to blowdry so I would have to wake up earlier than I want to in order to get ready for work. Instead I just shower at night, my hair airdries for a few hours and then I throw it up in a bun. Tomorrow before work, I will just blowdry some of the kinks out and then style it. A huge timesaver for me. Anyways – I get my shower and do most of my night time routine, washing my face, brushing my teeth, putting on a million moisturizers that promise to keep my skin perfect, etc.
9:30 – 10:30 pm – Biz work
It’s been a pretty busy day but I want to squeeze in a few business tasks. I use this time to catch up on emails, schedule out an email to go out to my email list, write out my to-do list for the week and browse Pinterest (of course).
10:30 – 11 pm – Read in bed
I try not to have the last thing I look at be a screen like my phone, tv or laptop, so I attempt to read in bed every night. I prefer to have an hour to read, but tonight 30 minutes is better than nothing. Reading helps me wind down and half the time I’ll fall asleep reading and then can just put down my book, turn off the light and fall right back asleep. I know I said no screens, but it’s one of those paper-like Kindles, so I hope it doesn’t count.
Some of my work from home days are a little more relaxing but this one was busy busy, especially I think with the Facebook Live and the chat with my mastermind. It can be hectic, but following the Easter weekend, which I took pretty easy, it wasn’t too bad. I’m working on keeping my to-do lists ready to go so when I have time to work on my biz, I can use the time most efficiently
Hope you enjoyed reading about my day! Honestly, every day is so different for me. Some days where I’m super busy at my day job, I won’t do anything for my biz besides maybe check and post on social media. Some weekends I spend hours on my biz and others (like this past weekend), I might only do 1-2 hours. It’s all about balance for me and, though I always want to grow my business, since it’s not my sole income, it’s nice to be able to take it easy when I want to.
