Goooood morning! Hope this Tuesday is treating you well.
For today’s Day in the Life, I’m featuring the lovely Elle from Wonderfelle MEDIA and creator of the Styled Stock Society! I think Elle and I first started following each other on Instagram and then that turned into doing a webinar together and eventually joining a mini-mastermind (You can make real connections through social media!).
Of course I wanted to feature her on the series because I’m so intrigued by what her day to day looks like as a styled stock photographer. I think people can easily be misled thinking that it’s an easy job, but taking amazing stock photos is NOT easy (I tried and failed miserably at taking photos just for my own Instagram!).
I hope you enjoy!

Day in the Life: Elle from Wonderfelle
8:00 AM Alarm goes off
So waking up at 8am is actually early for me. I normally don’t set an alarm and wake up naturally between 8am – 9am (or whenever my dog Mochi starts scratching on the bedroom door), but on this particular day I had a lot of things to get done so I wanted to make sure I got an “early” start.
Before I get out of bed, I always scroll through my email + check Mochi’s Instagram alerts. I’m not sure why I feel the compulsive need to check how many followers / comments she’s gotten in the 7ish hours I’ve been asleep but I can’t get out of bed until I do.
8:05 AM – 8:15 AM Morning routine
Stumble into kitchen and say hi to my husband (who’s already been awake and working for a couple hours) and feed Mochi her daily teenie greenie toothbrush. Since Zach gets up earlier he takes care of her morning routine for the most part, but she (not-so-patiently) waits until I get up for her greenie. I don’t usually eat breakfast, but I always pour a glass of water and take my daily vitamins / allergy pills before getting started with my day.
8:15 AM – 8:45 AM Emails
Get back in bed with Mochi and my laptop. I usually give myself up to 30 minutes to answer time-sensitive emails in the AM. Today I scheduled an in person coffee date, replied to a potential client inquiry, and forwarded Mochi’s manager a few emails from brands who are interested in partnerships. I used to spend wayyy more time on Mochi’s emails but her now her manager handles all the back + forth negotiation which is really helpful.
8:45 AM – 9:15 AM Coffee / flower run
I decide I need caffeine to get me through the day so it’s time for a Starbucks run. I don’t usually drink coffee, but people must think I do because I got a ton of Starbucks gift cards for Christmas that I’m still working through. I throw on leggings and my winter coat over the t-shirt I’m already wearing (which is also the one I slept in… but I promise I “actually” get dressed later today) and walk a few blocks to grab a skinny vanilla latte. I also stop at the deli on the corner to grab some flowers I need for a shoot tomorrow.
9:15 AM – 9:45 AM Prop sourcing
While I was in the elevator on my way back from Starbucks, I was scrolling through my emails and realized that H&M is having a sale. A lot of props I had my eye on are included – so I “have” to order some candles, vases, and other small home decor items for upcoming shoots. I also remember I need a few things for one of Mochi’s photoshoots that’s due in a couple days so I scour Amazon Prime for a couple of props that are available with same-day delivery. I freaking love Amazon.
9:45 AM – 11:30 AM Photo editing
During a typical week I have 2-3 different photoshoots scheduled so some days I block off time for shooting and other days for editing. Today’s an editing day so I edit photos from 2 client shoots and then start editing photos for an upcoming Styled Stock Society collection.
11:30 AM – 11:40 AM Chat with husband + cuddle with Mochi
My husband also works from home (in a separate room) so i take a break to chat with him about what we’re doing for lunch (he wants to order from Ando) and cuddle with Mochi for a bit. She’s extra sleepy this morning so cuddling really means she immediately falls asleep in my lap and then I feel bad moving her.Check out what a day in the life is like for styled stock photographer @wonderfelle!… Click To Tweet
11:40 AM – 12:40 PM Website planning
I’m making a lot of changes to the Styled Stock Society (my stock photo membership program + shop) and there are a lot of moving parts. I’m moving the current site from Squarespace to WordPress so I work on some wireframe planning for the new site and start playing around with the new membership plugin I’m using. There’s a bit of a learning curve but I’m “pretty sure” that the new site will solve a lot of the issues I’m having with my current setup!
12:40 PM – 1:00 PM Lunch break
Our lunch gets delivered so I take a break to eat. I wasn’t that hungry since I had coffee earlier, so I only ordered cookies. I realized that’s probably not going to hold me over until dinner so I grab some fruit and a string cheese out of the fridge and eat them first. Then I lounge on the couch and scroll through Instagram while I eat the cookies. When I’m done, I grab a diet coke and think I should probably drink more water but meh – I don’t really like the taste of water (yes, to recap, I ordered cookies for lunch and don’t like drinking water… #adultingishard)
1:00 PM – 1:45 PM Prep for interview
I have a video interview for an upcoming virtual summit in a bit so I need to actually get dressed for the day. I realize I still need to run through the potential interview questions so I take the lazy route and put on makeup and then only curl the front half of my hair that is visible on camera.
1:45 PM – 2:30 PM Interview
I chat with Caressa about how I earn passive income with the Styled Stock Society and I think the interview goes pretty well.
2:30 PM – 2:45 PM Finish getting ready
After the interview I finished curling the rest of my hair because I have to go out into the real world where people actually see the back of my head. I’m taking Mochi to a photoshoot and we haven’t really planned any looks in advance so I throw a ton of her clothing + accessories into a duffle bag so we have options.
2:45 PM – 3:00 PM Travel downtown
I hop in an Uber with Mochi and head downtown to her photoshoot. Luckily there’s not a ton of traffic on the FDR and we arrive just in time.
3:00 PM – 4:00 PM Photoshoot
I should probably back up for a minute to explain – in addition to my business, I run my dog Mochi’s Instagram account which currently has over 75,000 followers. She regularly has photoshoots, attends events, and does various brand partnerships – which is why she has her own manager and her own email. I know that sounds a little ridiculous but she basically has her own business which has paid for our last 2 vacations and the bed we sleep on every night, so feel free to judge… but I’m pretty sure this is as close as it gets to actually being a stay-at-home-dog-mom (#lifegoals).
4:00 PM – 4:30 PM Travel back home
There’s more traffic on our way back up town so it takes us almost twice as long to get home which is annoying. While I’m stuck in the car I pop into my Facebook group to reply to a few comments and also post a photo on my Instagram account.
4:30 PM – 6:00 PM Invoicing + project planning + emails
I have a lot of emails to catch up on so I spend some time replying to clients and sending a couple of contracts / invoices out. I have templates set up so these don’t take very long. Then I needed to add some tasks in Asana for my virtual assistant and follow up with a friend about a webinar we’re planning for next month. I may have gotten distracted by YouTube videos for a bit in here (I’ve been listening to Boyce Avenue covers on repeat lately).
6:00 PM – 6:45 PM Break + Instagram
The sunset was pretty so I shared it on my Instagram story and then spent some time replying to comments and engaging on Instagram for my account and Mochi’s account. I’m not entirely sure how 45 minutes went by but I’m pretty sure I spent at least 10 of them just staring at my dog. #typical
6:45 PM – 7:30 PM Apple store
My husband needed to go pick up airpods at the Apple store in Grand Central so we decided to walk over to get them and then stop for dinner on our way home. As much as I love living in NYC, I HATE crowded touristy areas so I’m relieved that Grand Central isn’t super crowded tonight.
7:30 PM – 9:00 PM Dinner at Sachi
There’s an Asian fusion restaurant in our neighborhood that we get dinner at fairly often. I like sitting at the bar and ordering a bunch of small plates to share. Also the cocktails are pretty yummy 🙂 We’ve been trying to go to Trader Joe’s more to “cook” dinners at home (and by we I mean my husband – because I am hopeless in the kitchen), but we still order Seamless or go out a few nights a week.
9:00 PM – 11:30 PM Tv + Instagram + shoot planning
We settle on the couch to catch up on tv (24, Scandal, How to Get Away with Murder) – though Zach falls asleep pretty quickly (he’s a morning person while I usually stay up late). I get bored watching tv without doing other things, so I start a couple of secret Pinterest boards to start planning some upcoming photoshoots and search for relevant inspiration. I realize I’m going to need a lot of flowers for shoots next week so I place a big order for some farm-direct flowers. I also edit and post a new photo on Mochi’s Instagram account, reply to comments, and interact with some of her followers.
11:30 PM – 1:00 AM Reading in bed
Zach wakes up from his “evening nap” so we get off the couch and get ready for bed. He immediately falls back asleep while I read (via the Kindle app) on my phone for an hour or two before I go to sleep. I go through phases with the types of things I read, but currently I’m making my way through a trashy romance series involving underground fighting and the Russian mafia. It’s almost embarrassing to admit that but since we’re sharing “real life” here – I like escaping through mindless fiction at the end of the day. Some nights I literally fall asleep with my phone in my hand (I know this is bad)… but usually I make myself stop sometime between 1am – 2am to go to sleep.
